FIU and Florida Student Nurses Associations

The FIU Student Nurses Association is a dynamic group of students leading the way in our classrooms and communities. Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society (STTI) offers membership to nursing students and professionals to recognize superior achievement, develop leadership qualities, foster high professional standards, encourage creative work, and strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession. The society offers rewarding connections with nurses at the local, regional and international levels who share your need to make a difference in global healthcare.

Undergraduate nursing students are eligible for membership to FIU’s STTI Pi Alpha Chapter-383 provided they have completed at last half of the BSN curriculum, rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class, and maintain a GPA above 3.0. Eligible BSN graduates will receive an invitation and application from the Chapter Eligibility Committee based on these criteria.

Graduate and doctoral nursing students are eligible for membership to FIU’s STTI Pi Alpha Chapter-383 provided they have completed at least one-quarter of the nursing curriculum and achieved academic excellence (i.e., minimum 3.5 GPA at institutions that use a 4.0 GPA grading system). Invitations to join STTI Pi Alpha are extended solely by the Chapter Eligibility Committee.

Class Governance

FIU Nursing students can have a say in their academic experience and on their influence in the community by participating in university and class governance.

Each entering class nominates and elects its own officers, including a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Together, they represent the interests and address concerns of fellow students at the departmental, college and university levels through healthy dialogue and collaboration with faculty advisors and administrators.

Class governance also helps guide and plan for events and activities that serve the community at large. Individual classes must consult with the college’s Director of Admissions & Student Services before planning fundraising activities.

Nursing Program Committees

FIU Nursing students can be influential and vital members of the college’s Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral Nursing Program Committees. The primary responsibility as a student committee member is to represent the student perspective in the ongoing development, evaluation and revisions of program and student policies, procedures and curricula. For more information, download the committee handbooks.
